Emerging Women Leaders: 10 Years of Transforming Leadership
Launched in December 2015 and supported by TEMPO's strong legacy of advancing professional women, Emerging Women Leaders (EWL) is celebrating its remarkable 10-year journey of developing Milwaukee's most promising talent.
Who We Are
EWL is composed of Milwaukee's rising stars and high-achievers—locally recognized, community-minded changemakers and inclusive up-and-coming leaders. Our members represent the next generation of leadership in their industries, functions, and city, embodying the future of TEMPO membership.
Our History: Responding to a Changing Landscape
In April 2015, TEMPO's President & CEO, with guidance from several TEMPO Board members, drafted a business case on "Building for the Future of TEMPO Milwaukee." This forward-thinking document identified potential risks to TEMPO's membership, awareness, and relevancy given the anticipated mass exodus of baby boomers and retiring members.
The business case highlighted TEMPO's core competency of mentoring while identifying a crucial missing element: mentees. The solution emerged as the Emerging Executives initiative, designed to address relevancy, succession planning, brand awareness, and mentoring in a comprehensive approach.
After receiving Board approval in August 2015, the initiative was soft-launched as "EMERGE" (later renamed Emerging Women Leaders) at TEMPO's September program meeting. In alignment with TEMPO's 40th Anniversary, the inaugural class would feature 40 emerging executives.
On December 17, 2015, at TEMPO's Holiday Party and 40th Anniversary Celebration at the Pfister Hotel, the 40 members of EWL's inaugural class were proudly introduced to the organization, making headlines in both BizTimes Milwaukee and the Milwaukee Business Journal.
