Emerging Women Leaders: 10 Years of Transforming Leadership

Launched in December 2015 and supported by TEMPO's strong legacy of advancing professional women, Emerging Women Leaders (EWL) is celebrating its remarkable 10-year journey of developing Milwaukee's most promising talent.

Who We Are

EWL is composed of Milwaukee's rising stars and high-achievers—locally recognized, community-minded changemakers and inclusive up-and-coming leaders. Our members represent the next generation of leadership in their industries, functions, and city, embodying the future of TEMPO membership.

Our History: Responding to a Changing Landscape

In April 2015, TEMPO's President & CEO, with guidance from several TEMPO Board members, drafted a business case on "Building for the Future of TEMPO Milwaukee." This forward-thinking document identified potential risks to TEMPO's membership, awareness, and relevancy given the anticipated mass exodus of baby boomers and retiring members.

The business case highlighted TEMPO's core competency of mentoring while identifying a crucial missing element: mentees. The solution emerged as the Emerging Executives initiative, designed to address relevancy, succession planning, brand awareness, and mentoring in a comprehensive approach.

After receiving Board approval in August 2015, the initiative was soft-launched as "EMERGE" (later renamed Emerging Women Leaders) at TEMPO's September program meeting. In alignment with TEMPO's 40th Anniversary, the inaugural class would feature 40 emerging executives.

On December 17, 2015, at TEMPO's Holiday Party and 40th Anniversary Celebration at the Pfister Hotel, the 40 members of EWL's inaugural class were proudly introduced to the organization, making headlines in both BizTimes Milwaukee and the Milwaukee Business Journal.

The EWL Experience: A Comprehensive Leadership Accelerator

EWL members gain exclusive access to a carefully designed ecosystem of growth opportunities:

  • Dual-Tier Mentoring: Receive individual guidance from established TEMPO executives while also participating in intimate mentoring circles

  • Strategic Professional Development: Engage with customized programming specifically addressing mid-career challenges and leadership transitions

  • Community Impact: Collaborate with influential leaders on initiatives that shape Milwaukee's future

  • Relationship Building: Forge meaningful connections through both structured professional events and relaxed social gatherings

  • Legacy Association: Join the distinguished lineage of women leaders who have advanced through TEMPO's respected pathways

A Decade of Impact

What began as a strategic TEMPO Milwaukee initiative has evolved into a cornerstone program transforming the leadership landscape. Over ten years, Emerging Women Leaders has:

  • Connected hundreds of rising professionals with established executives

  • Created a powerful alumnae network of women who have advanced to senior positions

  • Responded effectively to the changing demographics in the business community

  • Established a proven pathway for leadership development and TEMPO succession planning

Looking Forward: The Next Decade

As we celebrate our 10th anniversary, we honor not just our achievements but also our founding purpose: identifying, developing, and championing the next generation of women executives in Milwaukee. EWL remains TEMPO’s investment in creating a vibrant future for women's leadership.

Join our continuing legacy of leadership excellence as we embark on our next decade of impact.
