TEMPO's TRANSFORMATIVE DECADE
The decade spanning 1985 to 1995 marked a period of significant growth and evolution for TEMPO. Beginning with the celebration of its 10th anniversary in 1985, the organization embarked on several initiatives that would shape its future and expand its influence in the professional community.

Under the leadership of President Anne Curley, TEMPO launched its National Speaker Series—a strategic initiative designed to attract male executives to TEMPO events. The concept was innovative: bring compelling keynote speakers who would draw male bosses to attend alongside their female colleagues, thereby increasing visibility and recognition of women professionals. One notable speaker during this period was Abba Eban, the distinguished Israeli diplomat and politician. The success of the Speaker Series directly influenced the creation of what is now known as our signature Leadership Event, which became a cornerstone program for the organization.
In parallel with these outreach efforts, TEMPO established a more formal structure to support its philanthropic goals. The TEMPO Foundation was created during this period, solidifying the organization's commitment to furthering the impact of women leaders. The Foundation's first significant action was a scholarship donation through the Greater Milwaukee Foundation (GMF), setting the precedent for TEMPO's ongoing investment in women's professional development.
February 1990 saw another milestone with the inaugural Mentor Awards ceremony. This event recognized individuals who had made exceptional contributions to mentoring women in their professional journeys, highlighting TEMPO's dedication to not only advocating for women in leadership positions but also acknowledging those who supported their advancement.
The organization also recognized the importance of building community and connections among its members beyond formal professional settings. This led to the formation of TEMPO Special Interest Groups, which included an Investment Club, Book Club, Tennis Club, and Golf Club. These groups provided members with opportunities to network, develop skills, and build relationships in more casual environments, strengthening the bonds within the TEMPO community.
Together, these developments represented TEMPO's evolution from an organization focused primarily on professional networking to one with a comprehensive approach to supporting women's leadership through educational programming and professional development, networking opportunities, relationship building, and mentoring.
