Anne Reed

Retired, Former President and CEO - Wisconsin Humane Society

Anne  Reed is a dynamic Milwaukee nonprofit leader and attorney-turned-executive. She began her career practicing corporate litigation for nearly 30 years at the Lloyd & Leopold firm (formerly Reinhart Boerner Van Deuren) before shifting in 2010 to lead the Wisconsin Humane Society as Executive Director and later CEO.

Under her leadership, the Humane Society more than doubled its staff—from 100 to 240 employees—and its budget from $6 million to $14 million. She oversaw expansion into multiple counties, launched new spay/neuter clinics, achieved a live-release rate of over 90%, and built innovative, people-focused adoption programs.

After retiring in September 2022, Reed took on the role of interim CEO at Milwaukee Film in January 2024 and was confirmed as permanent president and CEO in May 2024. In that role, she guided the organization through stabilization efforts, acquisitions of the Downer and Oriental Theatres, and helped grow community programming including the annual film festival and year-round educational initiatives.
