Kris Best

Retired, Former CFO of BVK

Q: What unique qualities do you believe sets you apart as a leader and woman of influence?
A: My ability to connect, inspire and support others, especially those with differing perspectives. This philosophy has allowed me to collaborate with business owners, leaders, colleagues and not-for-profit boards. Additionally, I believe leading with humility and humanity has allowed me to communicate and positively impact numerous organizations throughout my career.

Q: Can you share a pivotal moment in your career that shaped your path?
A: The pandemic. I had to set aside my toolkit of knowledge that previously accumulated through years of business experience while I needed to lead others through uncharted waters. I had to pause, listen, research, network and collaborate, often ‘unlearning and re-training’ my approach to problem solving and leading. My personal and professional growth during this period of time was incredible.

Q: How do you define leadership, and how do you embody those qualities in your own life?
A: A leader is someone who inspires, motivates, and most importantly leads by example. There is no task too small or large for a leader. When you bring the best out of all of the team members, resulting in collective success far greater than individual effort alone, that is true leadership.

Q: How do you pay it forward and support the next generation of leaders
A: Mentorship. Throughout my career, through collaboration and observation with mentors, employees, and other leaders, not only have I been able to pay forward my experience, but I have also personally grown.
