Mary Dowell was a respected Milwaukee business leader, philanthropist, and advocate for women’s advancement. A retired executive from Johnson Controls, she led diversity and philanthropic efforts and co-founded the United Performing Arts Fund’s Notable Women initiative. She authored Playing Through the Fence, highlighting stories of women overcoming career barriers.

Dowell served on numerous boards, including TEMPO Milwaukee, the Milwaukee Urban League, and Milwaukee Women inc, helping increase female representation in leadership. From 2020 until her passing in 2022, she was an active member of the TEMPO Foundation, where her legacy continues to inspire women leaders.
