Q: What unique qualities do you believe sets you apart as a leader and woman of influence?
A: It's not about what sets me apart, as much as what has contributed to my success: a passion for mission-based organizations, a strong work ethic, and a consistently optimistic outlook.
Q: Can you share a pivotal moment in your career that shaped your path?
A: A pivotal moment in my career came when I was faced with the decision to pursue an internal role or take on an external position in development. During that time, I had a conversation with a mentor, Julie Tolan—someone I deeply admire. As I was weighing my options, Julie encouraged me to lean into my strengths. Her guidance gave me the confidence and pushed me to take on greater responsibilities. I’ve been fortunate to have mentors like Julie throughout my career—people who challenged me to step outside my comfort zone, which has helped me grow, both professionally and personally.
Q: How do you define leadership, and how do you embody those qualities in your own life?
A: I remember going to a TEMPO meeting in 2000 with Milwaukee World Festival Executive Director, Bo Black. There were approximately 30 women in the room, supporting one another through various career moments. Now, as TEMPO’s membership has swelled to hundreds, we can all reflect on the leadership of those early TEMPO members who helped create a seat for us at the table. Today, I am fortunate to have several current mentors that demonstrate that principal for me and I try to emulate that type of inclusivity in my own career.
Q: How do you pay it forward and support the next generation of leaders?
A: I try to pay it forward by being a good listener. It is only when you truly listen - then you can provide good advice.
